Johnston-McQueen Elementary School Longview, TX
Doris McQueen Elementary School is located on a slightly sloping and wooded site. Longview ISD Bond Program included the renovation of the existing facility and a sixteen classroom building addition, gymnasium, and library. Building code and ADA upgrades were included which brought the construction cost to $9,526,748.
Once complete, the new elementary will accommodate the existing staff and staff that will be relocated from Johnston Elementary. The additional structure will maintain the design and detailing of the existing building by not only matching the exterior parapet height and masonry detailing but also by continuing the circulation patterns of the existing building into the new addition, which includes four corridors running north and south. Furthermore, the north end of the addition will serve as sheet drainage across the slightly sloping site. The scope of work included in the renovation of the existing building will include painting, new flooring materials, and new fixtures, ceramic tile, and partitions for the restrooms. Both the existing library and cafeteria square footage will increase by extending the learning center into two adjacent classrooms and with the addition of the activity space to the east end of the cafeteria.
